A few weekends ago, we had the pleasure of running our Skills to Foster training. These sessions are designed to provide people at the start of their fostering journey with the knowledge, confidence, and insight they need to take their first steps into fostering. Over three days, applicants learn about the role of a foster parent, the needs of children who come into care, the challenges and rewards fostering can bring, and the support they’ll receive along the way.

We were joined by six wonderful people from four households – all of whom were enthusiastic, engaged, and keen to learn. Alongside our training team, we were supported by Kate, an experienced foster parent and foster parent rep, and Faye from our admin team. This gave applicants a chance to ask questions directly about the realities of fostering, from day-to-day life with children in care to the recording, processes, and IT systems that help keep everything running smoothly.

There’s a lot to cover in the training, but there was no shortage of energy. There were plenty of laughs, a few emotional moments, and of course, good food to keep us going! Following the training, our Form F Assessors will begin preparing their panel applications. We’re already looking forward to welcoming these new foster parents into the Hope family – we can’t wait to see them grow and thrive in their roles.
