Fostering is a rewarding yet challenging vocation. To ensure our foster parents are well-equipped to provide the best care possible, we prioritise a comprehensive training programme. This week, we invited FosterTalk to deliver face-to-face training at our new offices in Bestwood Village.

Why Training Matters

Training is crucial for foster parents as it helps them develop the skills and knowledge needed to support our young people effectively. We cover various aspects, including child development, trauma-informed care, fostering standards, and managing challenging behaviours. Supported and informed foster parents can nurture a safe and loving environment, which is essential for a young person’s well-being.

Managing Allegations

Today’s training session, provided by FosterTalk, focuses on ‘Managing Allegations’. This training is vital as it prepares foster parents to handle any allegations, complaints, or concerns that may arise. We are members of FosterTalk, so our staff and foster families are able to access independent advisors who offer confidential support, guidance, and representation throughout the allegations process, ensuring they feel supported and informed. As FosterTalk highlights, “Support is confidential and undertaken on a one-to-one basis. If required, an advisor can mediate with your fostering organisation and key professionals”. Today’s training has covered a variety of issues such as what an allegation is, protecting yourself from allegations and working with Hope Fostering Services if allegations arise. Thank you to FosterTalk for an excellent training session.
