June is Pride Month in the UK, and while we celebrate diversity every day, this month provides a special opportunity to shine a spotlight on the need for more LGBTQ+ foster parents. It’s also a perfect time to emphasize the importance of inclusivity in fostering.
Young people who identify as LGBTQ+ may face additional challenges when they are fostered. Many have needed new homes due to family rejection, discrimination, or even abuse, related to their sexual orientation or gender identity. They may be at higher risk of experiencing further discrimination unless they are placed within caring, supportive, and understanding foster families.
Hope Fostering Services is proud of our strong, inclusive values that underpin our work. We promote diversity within our staff members, foster families, and young people. One of our current foster parents, Kate, says “I think Hope’s very inclusive. They welcome everyone from all backgrounds, all faiths, and all cultures. Specifically LGBTQ+ – they’re very good. There is no prejudice or stigma or anything.” Hope Fostering Services is also a proud member of New Family Social, which is a UK charity run by LGBTQ+ adopters and foster parents.
If you are considering becoming a foster parent, now is the perfect time to take the first step. We offer comprehensive training and support to ensure that you are fully prepared for the journey ahead. Whether you are single, married, or in a partnership, we welcome you to join our diverse community of foster parents.
Together, we can make a difference in the lives of children who need it most.
